Decimal Addition


Decimals are fractional numbers. The decimal 0.8 is the same 
as the fraction 8/10. The number 0.88 is a decimal that represents 
88/100. 


Five tips for decimal addition as follows:


1. Align decimal points (or dots)  onto a stack (or in a line). 

2. Place a decimal point directly below line, or stack of decimals, 
on the line that will hold your result. 

3. Once you place the decimal point on the line that will hold your 
result. DO NOT MOVE IT! 

4. Follow your usual addition rules. adding and carrying is the 
same with decimal numbers as it is with whole numbers.

5. Remember to put the decimal point in the proper place in your 
answer.
